Wakefield B Substation Project

GE Services personnel previously Project Managed the diversion of two 132kV overhead (OH) to underground (UG) circuits to facilitate a major housing development near Wakefield B substation. The project included:
  • Planning and Construction: Managed the planning application and construction of a terminal tower to support the new cable route.
  • Cable Installation: Oversaw the installation of underground cables via Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) and double circuit trenching.
  • Terminating and Testing: Coordinated the terminating, jointing, and testing of the new cable circuits to ensure they met all required standards.
  • Network Rail Coordination: Arranged Network Rail track possessions to facilitate the safe swinging of overhead wires onto the new tower.
  • Decommissioning: Managed the decommissioning and removal of three towers that were no longer required following the diversion.

This project demonstrates GE Services’ capability in managing complex electrical infrastructure projects, ensuring timely completion and compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements.
